Tractor Supply is now the biggest seller of gun safes in the USA. Yes, you read that right, they are the #1 seller of gun safes in America and they have partnered with some of the biggest brands to offer you a wide selection of both imported and made in USA Gun safes. So who makes tractor supply gun safes? Tractor Supply doesn’t actually make gun safes at all but will have brands make special models for them and they are often notated by a TS in the name. For example, Winchester makes a series that includes the TS12, TS26 and TS36 that are only sold on Tractor Supply and are different from their standard line. Companies like Tractor Supply, Costco and Walmart demand these manufacturers to hit certain price points on gun safes and in order to do that they have to reduce the steel thickness, use a cheaper lock, remove important security features like hardplates and re-lockers or lower the fire ratings. Keep reading to understand which models are unique to Tractor Supply and what the differences are between the standard models and the Tractor Supply Version.
Winchester Gun Safes
Winchester sells the most gun safes on Tractor Supply via their TS series. It is very similar to the Bandit series but with a few key differences. Winchester doesn’t even list the Bandit series on Tractor Supply and by selling a TS series they allow Tractor Supply to have an exclusive where they don’t have to compete with any other dealers. The TS series is a lower quality version of the Bandit and the core differences are the lock and fire rating but only on the TS-12. All Bandit gun safes come with a 45 minute fire rating and the TS-12 is reduced to 30 minutes. The lock is the core difference though and they remove the UL rated S&G high security electronic lock for a non-rated, low quality Chinese Solenoid lock with key override. This is one of the most unreliable locks in the safe industry and you will eventually resort to only using the key to get in. I would not recommend the TS series and advise you stick with the Bandit at a minimum and the Ranger series would be more ideal.
Cannon Gun Safes
Cannon nearly sells exclusively now on Tractor Supply, Costco and various other box stores. Their quality is wildly inconsistent as they have gone through bankruptcies and ownership changes. Similar to Winchester, Cannon uses TS in their model numbers to differentiate their products and make them exclusive to Tractor Supply and avoid competition. They use the same low quality Solenoid lock as Winchester with key backup. I strongly advise against this lock and urge you to go with a UL rated high security lock made by S&G, Securam or NL. The steel thickness used on even the largest models in only 14 gauge steel which cuts like butter when attacked with a saw. These gun safes provide the illusion of security but are far too easy to break into.
Liberty Gun Safes
Liberty safe makes several models exclusive for Tractor Supply including the Revere, 1776 and We the People gun safes. Different from Winchester and Cannon, Liberty still uses a high quality SecuRam UL Rated high security electronic lock or S&G Mechanical lock on all of their models. While their safes look the same as some of the safes they sell through standard channels on the outside, the real difference comes in the steel thickness and burglary rating. Typically all of Liberty’s gun safes are UL RSC burglary rated and a minimum of 11 gauge steel, however on Tractor Supply, none of these cheaper models are UL Rated and they don’t even list the steel thickness. This is a huge red flag and usually means that the steel thickness is thin, otherwise it would be a bragging point for them. Without the UL RSC Burglary Rating, an insurance company will not provide any insurance for the internal contents. Be warned.
Surelock, Sports Afield, Mesa, Remington, Sanctuary and Tracker Gun Safes
The remaining brands offered on Tractor Supply all keep their products the exact same as sold in other places. Surelock, Mesa and Tracker are all brands that are not well known and barely sell any gun safes in general. Sports Afield, Sanctuary and Remington are all made by SA Consumer products and sell pretty much exclusively in box stores so their products are already designed for this style of application. I will say that the new Remington gun safes are built to very high quality standards with a reliable lock and very impressive interior and features.
The Bottom Line
To answer the original question, Who Makes Tractor Supply Gun Safes? Well, the answer is no one, but brands do make safes exclusively to be sold on Tractor Supply and it is usually notated by a TS in the model number with the exception of Liberty Safe. Hopefully after reading this article, you realize that with safes you get what you pay for and to achieve that super low price on Tractor Supply, companies have to reduce the steel thickness, lower the fire rating or god forbid use a cheap Chinese solenoid lock. As a rule of thumb when searching for a gun safe, make sure to look for a UL rated lock made by S&G, Securam or NL and at a UL RSC Burglary Rating. This makes sure you get at least the minimum needed for basic security features.
