Understanding Gun Safes can be confusing and overwhelming with the various marketing tactics of manufacturers like Liberty, Cannon and Rhino Metals. When I think of a safe, I don’t want people to know I have it, so when these manufacturers present these pictures of kids playing in front of it in the family den I want to vomit. You want to paint your safe a bright pretty color and put it in the middle of your living room? You can’t be that stupid, I mean come on. That’s like painting a giant target on your forehead telling everyone who walks into your house, “Hey Everybody, all of my valuables are right HERE!!!” Personally, I prefer my safe as black as possible and hiding somewhere as discreet as possible but hey, maybe that’s just me.

The number one requirement when you start your shopping should be that the Gun Safe you are looking at it at the very least UL Rated as an RSC (Residential Security Container). This means that Underwriters Laboratories, a very reputable testing agency, punished the safe for a net working time of 5 minutes and were not able to break in. I know what your thinking, 5 minutes isn’t a long time, however you need to understand what that 5 minutes means. It’s 5 minutes of attack per tool and they use a lot of different tools and unless you are planning on spending upwards of $2,000+ for a TL Rated Safe these are your best options. Stealth UL14 Gun Safe

I don’t know what it is about Stealth, but they just get it. From the tactical paint job to the loads of security and useful features, I haven’t been able to find a gun safe that even comes close to the price. From my research, 12 gauge steel seems to be the starting amount of steel to earn a UL rating and that’s exactly what Stealth used, a 12 gauge steel door and body. While there is a massive difference when going from 16 gauge to 12 gauge, the difference between 12 gauge and say a 10 gauge Fort Knox is almost no difference. You end up paying thousands more for a safe that can be cut open with the same grinding wheel from Home Depot. Stealth adds in 1.25” 4-way locking bolts, a hardplate, relocker and the most important part, a UL Rated High Security Electronic Lock. The more research I do on NL locks the more I love them. They are by far and large the most reliable locks in the world. The Stealth UL series also comes with a 1 hour fire rating and an intumescent door seal to keep the smoke out. I don’t always trust Chinese fire ratings so I would strongly suggest purchasing an additional fire safe to put inside of your gun safe for additional fire protection. So the security kicks ass, the fire rating is good enough and now we get to the good part. They put a Molle Door Panel on the back of the door, I can’t fucking believe nobody else has thought of this yet. Liberty, Cannon, Fort Knox, AMSEC and all the rest of ‘em use sewn pockets with the pistols running right into the top shelf. How Stupid. With Molle you can make it however you want, why wouldn’t you want to use that. Finally, the electrical outlet is a nice feature and overall this is a really, really good safe for the price. No, it’s not a TL30X6 Jewelry safe but it’s also not $8,000. The Stealth UL14 Gun Safe is easily the best in the category and you won’t regret your purchase.
