Tracker Safe is relatively new to the safe industry only being around since 2008. They have many online partnerships through Home Depot, Tractor Supply, Wal-Mart and other online retailers. Not uncommon with most manufacturers these days, they don’t actually manufacture anything at all but import all of their product from AIPU safe in China. In these Tracker M Gun Safe Reviews, I will help you understand why it’s a very secure product but uses a lock that I don’t recommend.
Lock – Tracker M Gun Safe Reviews
First and always most important for any safe is its lock. The Tracker M gun safes now feature either the SecuRam UL Rated BackLit high security electronic lock or the Big Red UL Rated high security Mechanical Lock.
SecuRam Basic UL Rated High Security Lock
SecuRam is a long standing and very reliable brand and one of the three major lock companies I recommend with the other two being NL and S&G. The BackLit keypad is a huge upgrade from the TopLit used on the USA and Centurion models because it is full stainless steel construction compared to the ABS plastic. This makes the keypad significantly more durable and long lasting.
They also vastly improved the way the 9 volt battery goes in and out by utilizing an interlocking plastic tray. Now you don’t have to slide the entire keypad up to change the battery, it’s a way better design. This lock features a 6 digit electronic code that is easy to program to your own custom combination. The lock opens 10,000+ times on just one battery.
Big Red UL Rated High Security Mechanical Lock
New for 2024, Tracker safe has switched all of their mechanical locks to the Big Red Mechanical Lock. This is the same lock primarily used by American Security products and is a good quality mechanical lock. It is UL rated type 2 High Security with a 3 number combination. It’s built to last for decades and overall, I do recommend this lock.
Hard Plate and Re-Locker
The locks are also protected by both a hard plate and internal spring-loaded re-locker. The Hard plate is a piece of hardened steel that absolutely destroys drill bits. In addition, the internal re-locker fires if the lock is punched through securing the bolts in place. Both of these are essential security features and included on this safe.
Security – Tracker M Gun Safe Reviews
The Tracker M Gun Safe is built to standard gun safe construction with one layer of steel and multiple layers of gypsum fire board. It features an 11 gauge steel door and body. This is just slightly thicker than the 12 gauge options in this price range. In addition, they include 4-way bolt work with 1″ solid steel locking bolts. This offers excellent pry-resistance with the bolt work covering all four sides.
It exceeds the CA DOJ Gun Safe requirements and overall is significantly more secure than entry level safes. It has not been tested for UL RSC approval which means it does not qualify for insurance.
Fire Rating – Tracker M Gun Safe Reviews
The Tracker M Gun Safe comes with a 60 minute fire rating at 1250 degrees. They also use an Intumescent Fire seal. This seal expands to 7 times their size during a fire to keep smoke and heat out.
Keep in mind, this is a factory test and not certified by an independent testing agency like ETL.
Style and Function
The Tracker M Gun Safe comes in a textured black powder coat finish. Hardware includes a black chrome 3-spoke Handle and brushed nickel keypad. In addition, a door panel organizer is included for storing pistols, knives, flashlights and other small items on the back of the door. Finally, an electrical outlet is included for powering electronics like a light kit or dehumidifier inside of the safe.
The interior includes a gun rack with adjustable or removable shelf, all upholstered in a high quality gray carpeting.
Warranty
Tracker Gun Safes come with a lifetime warranty on fire, break-in and attempted break-in. In addition, they cover the cost of all freight to and from the factory as well. They also provide a 1 year parts and labor warranty on all components of the safe where they will pay for the locksmith or safe technician to come to the safes location and repair on site. All in all, this is an excellent warranty and Tracker is a reliable and trustworthy company to work with.
The Bottom Line
Would I buy this Tracker Gun Safe for my firearms and valuables. Yes I would. With the new and improved lock, adequate steel construction and reliable company for warranty and service, this safe is a good value for the money.
With that said, there are gun safes in this price range that I do recommend. The Browning Sporter Series, Stealth UL series and Hollon Crescent Shield Gun Safes. Find out why they are so much better in my ranking of the Top 3 Best Gun Safes Under $1,600.
