Wall Safes are one of the most popular style of safes due to their concealed nature and high security rating. While they are not overly difficult to make being just steel with no fire rating, many companies don’t opt to make them as the sales volume is nowhere near gun safes and home safes. That’s why there are so few options in the category and even fewer high quality options. But don’t worry, I’ve tested all of these wall safes and compiled this list of the Top 3 Best Wall Safes that you can trust. All of these models have solid steel construction, high quality UL Rated locks, advanced security features and are sold by companies who actually honor their warranty.

Lock – Top 3 Best Wall Safes

First and always most important for any wall safe is the lock. All three of these wall safes from Stealth, American Security, and Hayman feature high quality UL Rated High Security Locks. UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories and they are an independent agency that certifies that the locks are both secure and high quality. I always recommend to purchase a UL rated lock and all three of these options are very high quality.

S&G Mechanical Lock or NL UR-2020 Electronic Lock – Stealth WSHD1414 Wall Safe

Included in the price of the Stealth wall safe is the S&G UL Type 2 Mechanical Lock or NL UR-2020 UL Type 1 Electronic Lock. The S&G is one of only two mechanical locks I recommend as it is high quality, reliable and known for longevity. It uses a three number combination that rotates into the lock body on the inside of the safe. This lock is designed to last for decades and features over 1 million possible combinations. You can’t go wrong with this lock, I highly recommend it.

NL is one of the three major lock brands I recommend with SecuRam and S&G being the other two. I highly recommend this lock and it is very high quality. The parts are globally sourced with the electronic boards and lock body produced in Europe and the keypads coming from Korea.

ESL10XL Electronic Lock – American Security WS1214

First up is American Security’s own UL Approved high security lock, the ESL series. These locks are UL approved as type 1 which is the highest security rating possible. I don’t typically recommend American Security ESL locks and prefer ones made by NL, SecuRam and S&G. However, the ESL10XL and ESL20XL are built very high quality and typically used in commercial applications lasting decades. All three locks have over 1 million possible combinations and the ESL10XL adds Time Delay function while the ESL20XL adds multi-user and Time Delay.

UL Approved High Security Mechanical Lock – Big Red

The second lock option is the Big Red Type 2 UL Approved Mechanical Lock. S&G is the oldest and most reputable lock company in the United States. This three number combination lock is built to last forever and is known for its longevity and reliability.

SecuRam Basic Electronic Lock – Hayman CV WS-7 Wall Safe

The Hayman CV WS-7 Wall Safe comes standard with a UL Approved High Security Electronic Lock made by SecuRam. SecuRam is a long standing company known for quality and longevity. This lock has over 1 million possible combinations and uses an innovative battery compartment that is so much easier than traditional keypads. This is a premier quality lock and I highly recommend it.

Hard Plate and Re-Locker

Stealth and American Security wall safes are also protected by both a hard plate and internal spring-loaded re-locker. The Hard plate is a piece of hardened steel that absolutely destroys drill bits. The internal re-locker fires if the lock is punched through securing the bolts in place. Both of these are essential security features and included on the American Security and Stealth wall safes.

When it comes to security, all three models use similar methods. They all start with a thick piece of steel, 1/2″ on the Stealth, 3/4″ on the American Security and 1/4″ on the Hayman. They then use the traditional round style solid steel locking bolts on the Stealth and American Security and one solid steel locking pin on the Hayman. Wall safes are placed into the wall which eliminates attack points on 5 sides and only leaves the door open to attack. These are high quality, beefy steel doors that can withstand sophisticated burglary attacks.

Style and Function – Top 3 Best Wall Safes

The Stealth WSHD1414 is finished in textured black paint with chrome hardware. American Security uses a charcoal gray and Hayman is finished in textured cream. Considering wall safes are meant to be hidden, the finish is not particularly important. Hayman and American Security include two removable shelves while Stealth includes only one. Stealth also adds carpeting to the shelf and bottom to prevent scratches.

Warranty

Hayman provides a limited lifetime warranty covering burglary and attempted burglary. American Security includes a 1 year parts and labor warranty. They will pay for a safe technician repair the floor safe at no cost to you on site. Stealth doubles that parts and labor warranty to 2 years. Finally, Hayman requires you to ship the safe back to them for repair. This isn’t exactly practical on a wall safe installed in concrete. Simply put, the longer the warranty, the more the company believes in the product and Stealth wins this category.

The Bottom Line

All three of these models are easily the Top 3 Best Wall Safes in the industry. While the American Security WS1214 has a thicker steel door, I chose the Stealth WSHD1414 as the best of the best for a couple reasons. It is Made in USA, has double the parts and labor warranty, a higher quality electronic lock and a better paint finish. All in all, I recommend the Stealth made in USA WSHD1414 wall safe as the best in category.
