Stealth DS1614 Drop Safe Review

Altogether, the Stealth DS1614 Drop Safe is very high quality, loaded with security features and the absolute best economical drop safe available.

Lock – Stealth DS1614 Drop Safe

UL Approved High Security Electronic Lock – NL UR-2020

First and always most important for any safe is the lock. Stealth includes the NL UR-2020 high security electronic lock. This lock is UL approved as type 1 which is the highest security rating possible. NL is one of the three major lock brands I recommend with SecuRam and S&G being the other two. I highly recommend this lock and it is very high quality. The parts are globally sourced with the electronic boards and lock body produced in Europe and the keypads coming from Korea.

Hard Plate and Re-Locker

This lock is also protected by both a hard plate and internal spring-loaded re-locker. The Hard plate is a piece of hardened steel that absolutely destroys drill bits. The internal re-locker fires if the lock is punched through securing the bolts in place. Both of these are essential security features and included on this safe.

Security – Stealth DS1614 Drop Safe

The Stealth DS1614 Drop Safe is equipped with a 1/4″ thick solid steel door. Stealth then adds two 1″ solid steel locking bolts combined with an internal hinge for quality pry resistance. The body is constructed of 16 gauge steel which is not particularly thick but offers nearly the same saw resistance as 12 gauge steel.

On the back side of the drop are jagged teeth called anti-fish baffles. This prevents a thief from running a fishing line down into the safe and retrieving the contents.

Style and Function

The Stealth DS1614 is finished in a textured black paint. Hardware includes both a chrome wheel handle and black keypad. Finally, the interior is all metal and includes a carpeted bottom.

Overall, drop safes are not meant for overnight storage. They should be emptied each day with the deposit being taken to the bank. The front load deposit is able to accommodate medium size packages and is the following dimensions: 3 ½”H x 11 ½”W x 6″D.

Warranty

This Stealth drop safe is covered by a 1 year parts and labor warranty. This covers the lock and all other components. Stealth will pay for a safe technician or locksmith to come out to your home or business and repair the safe. If the safe needs to be replaced, they pay for all shipping costs and do not require you to ship the safe back to their warehouse. All in all, they are by far the easiest and most customer centric company I’ve worked with. I highly recommend them for both service and warranty.

The Bottom Line

Would I buy the Stealth DS1614 Drop Safe to protect my valuables? Yes, I absolutely would. With a UL Rated high security lock, 1/4″ thick solid steel door, advanced security features and compact design, this Stealth drop safe is my top recommendation for a low cost economical drop safe.

With that said, the security on this safe is lacking compared to higher quality options from American Security and the Made in USA Stealth options. A 1/2″ thick steel door is the minimum you should consider when buying a drop safe. I would recommend the Stealth DS2014 Drop Safe over this one.
