“It’s Good. While this is listed as a safe, I think it’s more of a gun cabinet. I definitely think it’s great to keep weapons out of any unwanted people’s hands, however, with enough effort, any novice thief can most likely open it. Overall, I would recommend the safe if you have children in the home, as well as, to just have the guns locked up.”

With over 700 positive reviews and under $400 with free shipping, the Langger V Gun Safe for Rifle appears to be a decent option in what feels like a never ending list of low quality Chinese gun cabinets advertised as gun safes. Langger V does still call this product a gun safe, which it is definitely not, but I will give them credit in that they accurately list the steel thickness, dimensions and overall do a good job at describing what this product actually is. While I still feel you should consider a product with a UL Rated High security Electronic Lock, minimum 30 minute fire rating and CA DOJ approval, I am going to give the Langger V Gun Safe for Rifle the imaginary award for best Chinese imported gun cabinet.
First and always most important is the quality of the lock. While not UL Rated, this lock is still a Solenoid style but the small difference is in the quality of the keypad. This push button electronic keypad is definitely a higher quality and more reliable version than the touchscreen style. I still do not like the use of the reset button on the inside but considering all of the gun cabinets in this category use it, it’s somewhat of a necessary evil if a UL Rated High security electronic lock is not used. It’s still lacking a relocker and hardplate inside the door and the overall security is weak in comparison to actual gun safes. A nice feature of this lock is that it also has an audible alarm after three incorrect entries are made into the keypad alerting you if your kids or a thief were in your home and trying to access your firearms.
The Langger V Gun Safe for Rifle does use emergency back up keys and an external battery pack however they do not list the style of key used in the Amazon listing. Considering there other products use the high security laser cut key override, I’m going to assume they are using the same style which is actually a good quality key override in comparison to the tubular style and double bitted style. I do not like the fact that the battery compartment is on the inside but this is a common trend among all gun cabinets with this style Solenoid Lock.
Langger V accurately reports that their gun safe is 14 gauge steel with 5/8″ thick bolts. This is such a refreshing change for a Chinese company to actually list their steel thickness and 14 gauge is standard on gun cabinets. Without a fire rating and only thin bolts, any thief would be able to access this gun cabinet with a screwdriver and a hammer in just a few minutes. It will keep young children out but that’s about it.
The internal dimensions of the Langger V Gun Safe for Rifle is 11″ which will fit most modern firearms. Judging by how many bad reviews every other Chinese imported gun cabinet has in regards to pretty much no guns fitting in their products, Langger V took that into consideration and made a deeper product.
The interior of the Langger V Gun Safe for Rifle is all steel with a steel adjustable shelf and internal compartment. The only carpeting is on the back of the door making this a risky product for firearms as it becomes very easy to scratch them while taking them in and out.
All in all, I am reluctant to give any recommendation to a low end gun cabinet but out of all of these low end safes, this Langger V Gun Safe for Rifle is the best that I have found.
