Ironman Safes is a relatively unknown company in the safe industry. They are based out of Idaho and have only a few online dealers. With that said, they made some pretty high quality products with thick steel construction so long as you use the right lock option. In these Ironman Vault Door Reviews, I’ll help you understand what makes them a great option and very competitively priced for all that you get.

Lock – Ironman Vault Door Reviews

S&G UL Rated High Security Mechanical Lock

First and always most important is the lock. Included in the price is the S&G UL Type 2 Mechanical Lock. This is one of only two mechanical locks I recommend as it is high quality, reliable and known for longevity. It uses a three number combination that rotates into the lock body on the inside of the safe. This lock is designed to last for decades and features over 1 million possible combinations.

LG Basic UL Approved High Security Electronic Lock

The second lock option available is the LG Basic UL approved high security electronic lock. This lock is UL Approved type 1 and is the highest security rating available with over 1 million possible combinations. With that said, I do not recommend this lock at all. It has had numerous quality issues in the past and there was even a huge recall from Winchester safes less than 5 years ago that nearly put them out of business. All in all, if you choose to go with the Ironman Vault door, I recommend you stick with the S&G mechanical lock option.

Hard Plate and Re-Locker

This lock is also protected by both a hard plate and internal spring-loaded re-locker. The Hard plate is a piece of hardened steel that absolutely destroys drill bits. Also, the internal re-locker fires if the lock is punched through securing the bolts in place. Both of these are essential security features and included on this safe.

Security – Ironman Vault Door Reviews

Included in the price is a 1/4″ steel plate door with a solid steel frame. The door is protected by 8 all active 1″ square solid steel locking bolts. The hinge side includes a 3/4″ welded steel lip that locks behind the hinge side. When combined with concrete on all other sides, this vault door is quite strong for the price.

Fire Rating – Ironman Vault Door

Nearly all vault doors do not have a fire rating and are thick steel construction. The Ironman vault door comes with two layers of 5/8″ fireboard in the door. It does not hold a time rating as it has not been tested but when combined with concrete, it should last at least 30 minutes at 1200 degrees. Also included is a Palusol door seal that expands up to 7 times its size during a fire to keep smoke and heat from entering the safe.

Style and Function

The Ironman Vault Door is available in a variety of textured color options. Hardware includes either a drop down handle or a 3-spoke handle. It’s available in several depths depending on your wall size. Lastly, I highly recommend you hire a professional contractor to assist with the design of the concrete room and the installation.

This vault door can be built to either right hand swing or left hand swing as well as in-swing or out-swing.

Warranty

The Ironman Vault Door comes with a lifetime warranty on all components except the lock. This includes break-in and attempted break-in. They don’t mention if this includes the freight to the factory or if they will send a technician to your location repair the product on site. Considering, vault doors are installed in concrete, it is not feasible to uninstall them and ship them for repair so I would recommend clarifying this with Ironman directly before purchasing as this can be a critical component to the long term quality of the product.

The Bottom Line

Would I buy the Ironman Vault Door to protect my firearms and valuables. Yes, I would, but only with the S&G Mechanical lock installed. Considering the warranty is somewhat unclear with no clear information online, I would definitely confirm the details with them before purchasing as it is a critical component of the product.

With that said, there is a vault door that I highly recommend that has a clear warranty. The American Security BFQ Vault Doors are built with the 1/2″ steel plate door standard. They also have Drylight concrete composite material in-between two steel plates which offers substantial burglary and fire protection. Finally, they are a long standing American company that makes very high quality products. All things considered, I recommend the American Security Vault Doors over Ironman.
