Hayman is most well known for their innovative floor safes in the safe industry. They made an innovative, lightweight foam body that is just as strong in concrete. Since then, they’ve moved into other commercial safes safes with moderate success. In this Hayman CV-F27-C Drop Safe Review, I will explain why it is a very secure product and an excellent choice in the drop safe category.
Lock – Hayman CV-F27-C Drop Safe
S&G UL Approved Type 2 High Security Mechanical Lock
First and always most important is the lock. Included in the price is the S&G UL Type 2 Mechanical Lock. This is one of only two mechanical locks I recommend as it is high quality, reliable and known for longevity. It uses a three number combination that rotates into the lock body on the inside of the safe. This lock is designed to last for decades but is inconvenient on drop safes as they are often accessed daily. I would recommend upgrading to the electronic lock option for convenience.
S&G 6120 UL Approved High Security Electronic Lock
The second lock option available is the S&G 6120 UL approved high security electronic lock. This is an excellent quality lock made by a longstanding and reputable company. S&G is the oldest lock company in the US and has a premier reputation for making very high quality locks. UL Approved type 1 is the highest security rating available and has over 1 million possible combinations.
Hard Plate and Re-Locker
This lock is also protected by both a hard plate and internal spring-loaded re-locker. The Hard plate is a piece of hardened steel that absolutely destroys drill bits. The internal re-locker fires if the lock is punched through securing the bolts in place. Both of these are essential security features and included on this safe.
Security – Hayman CV-F27-C Drop Safe
The SHayman CV-F27-C Drop Safe is equipped with a massive 1/2″ thick solid steel door. Hayman then adds five 1″ solid steel locking bolts covering the door along with a full steel dead bar on the hinge side that locks behind the external cast iron hinges. The body is constructed of high tensile 1/8″ steel certifying this depository safe as B-Rate construction. Also included is are reinforced internal jambs on all four sides to provide protection against sledgehammer attack.
Style and Function
The Hayman CV-F27-C is finished in a textured two-tone finish with light gray body and black door. Hardware includes both a chrome L Shaped Drop Down handle and black dial along with chrome fascia plate. Finally, the interior is all metal and includes a carpeted bottom. A bolt detent locks the bolts automatically when the door closes so you never have to remember if you locked the safe.
Overall, drop safes are not meant for overnight storage. They should be emptied each day with the deposit being taken to the bank. The front load deposit is able to accommodate medium size packages and is the following dimensions: 5″ H x 10.50″ W x 10.75″ D.
Warranty
The Hayman Drop Safe series comes with a 1 year parts and labor warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. This is not a warranty where they will send a locksmith or safe technician to your residence to repair the safe and you must ship them the safe and pay for the freight back to your location. This is very inconvenient for a business owner who has bolted the safe down and I do not recommend this warranty.
The Bottom Line
Would I buy the Hayman CV-F27-C Drop Safe to protect my valuables? Ultimately, yes I would. It uses a high quality lock with thick steel construction. The big red flag with Hayman is only the warranty but with the S&G lock options this drop safe should last decades.
With that said, it is still not the best in class. The Stealth Drop safe series is even better as it is made in USA, has a high security UL Approved electronic lock included in the price and is built to the same steel construction. All things considered, I would recommend the Stealth drop safe over this.
