Fort Knox Home Safes are renowned for their exceptional security and durability, with everything made right here in the USA. These home safes are distinguished by their lifetime warranty, a testament to their superior quality and the company’s confidence in their products. In addition, they offer advanced Inferno Shield fire protection, the thickest steel in the industry and high quality UL rated locks. What’s more, the standard features in Fort Knox safes are often the premium features in other brands, meaning that with Fort Knox, your home safe starts where most other home safes end. In this Fort Knox Treasury 6024 Home Safe Review, I’m going to help you understand exactly what sets Fort Knox home safes apart.
Lock – Fort Knox Treasury 6024 Home Safe
UL Approved Type 2 Mechanical Lock – S&G
First and always most important for any safe is its lock and the Fort Knox Treasury 6024 Home Safe comes standard with the S&G Mechanical Lock, UL approved Type 2. This is the highest quality mechanical lock in the industry that is designed to last forever. It uses the traditional 3 number combination on a spy-proof dial that prevents others from seeing you spin the combination.
UL Approved Type 1 Electronic Lock – S&G
There is also a second lock option that is the S&G electronic lock. This is an excellent quality lock made by the oldest lock company in the United States. UL Approved type 1 is the highest security rating available and I highly recommend this lock.
This lock features a 6 digit electronic code that is easy to program to your own custom combination. In addition, the lock opens 10,000+ times on just one battery. Finally, there are over 1 million possible combinations.
If all that is not enough, S&G’s high-security electronic locks are proven to withstand military-level EMP attacks. S&G tested this lock using the U.S. military’s highest EMP impact standard. An independent lab applied a radiant transient electromagnetic field on this keypad following the Military Standard MIL-STD461F, Method RS105 at 50 kV/m peak exposure. At the end of the testing series the S&G locks were still fully functional.
Hard Plate and Re-Locker
Protecting either lock option is both a hard plate and internal re-locker. The Hard plate is a piece of hardened steel that absolutely destroys drill bits. The internal re-locker fires if the lock is punched through securing the bolts in place. Fort Knox uses a ball bearing hard plate which is better than the traditional hardened steel because it causes the drill bit to slip off of the round balls. Both of these are essential security features and included on this safe.
Security – Fort Knox Treasury 6024 Home Safe
When it comes to security the Fort Knox Treasury 6024 home safe begins far beyond where most home safes end. It features a 3/8″ steel door in addition to a 3/16″ steel body but then adds an additional ArmaKnox AR500 Steel Liner and a Stainless Steel liner on top of that. That is a ridiculous amount of steel and very high secure for a home safe. Securing the door are 1-1/2″ solid steel locking bolts that extend deep into the safes body.
All of this security earned the Treasury series the UL RSC burglary rating. These requirements ensure the safe can withstand an attack on the door with multiple different tools for a minimum of 5 minutes each.
Fire Rating – Fort Knox Treasury 6024 Home Safe
Another advanced feature of Fort Knox Home Safes is the Inferno Shield fire protection. Fort Knox limits the thermal conductivity by lining the inside of their vaults with a proprietary blend of a hydrogen bond fireboard and lock it in place using a stud weld process. They also test this process with a full 9 sensor house simulated test and show you the exact details in the graph below. Others just can’t match up.
The Treasury series is fire rated for 120 minutes at 1680 degrees. The temperature used in the test is significantly hotter than competitors who only test their safes at 1200 or 1400 degrees. Finally, Fort Knox includes a dual activated thermal door seal. First the cold smoke seal and then the Palusol seal that swells to keep the door shut. Construction matters to Fort Knox and should to you as well.
Style and Function
The Fort Knox Treasury Home Safes are available in a variety of textured and gloss color options. Hardware includes a 5-spoke handle and matching keypad available in black chrome, silver and gold. The interior carpeting is available in silver or beige. Fort Knox offers the most customization out of any home safe company.
The accessories included are a plush faux leather door backing with Vanity Mirror and Jewelry Hooks, eight plush velvet lined jewelry drawers and an internal power outlet. Fort Knox also offers a convenient bundle that includes a steel door upgrade, lights and a dehumidifier.
Warranty
Fort Knox Inc. will replace any home, luxury or gun safe, free of charge, broken into by forced entry or damaged due to an unlawful attempt during the lifetime of the original purchaser.
Fort Knox Inc. warrants to the original purchaser only, that each new vault will be free from defects in material and workmanship for the lifetime of the original purchaser from the date of delivery. Integral units such as locks are subject to this same warranty.
This is a lifetime warranty on all components of the safe and the absolute best warranty in the industry. Fort Knox safes may cost more, but they are guaranteed for life. This is an absolute testament to the superior quality of the product.
The Bottom Line
Would I buy the Fort Knox Treasury 6024 Home Safe for my firearms and valuables. Yes, I absolutely would. Fort Knox uses superior quality locks, steel, fire protection and accessories while backing it with a comprehensive lifetime warranty covering all components of the safe.
Yes this home safe is quite expensive, but in the safe world, you get what you pay for. All these other companies that sell safes cheaper have one layer of steel, no independently verified fire rating and only provide you with a strong door at most. Get thick steel on all six sides, verified fire protection and made in USA quality with Fort Knox.
