Does Remington make gun safes? This question keeps popping up more and more now that Remington gun safes are available for sale on Tractor Supply. To answer this question directly, no Remington does not make gun safes. They do however license out their name to SA Consumer products who imports the safes from China and puts the Remington name on them. These new Remington gun safes are made in the same Chinese factory as the Sports Afield safes and I know you may be thinking that all gun safes coming out of China are no good but you would be shooting yourself in the foot if you think these Remington gun safes aren’t as good as Liberty, Rhino or any other made in USA gun safe. Keep reading to find out why the Remington gun safes are the ideal choice in their respective categories.
Lock
First and always most important for any gun safe is the lock used and all Remington Gun Safes includes a SecuRam high security electronic lock. This lock is tested and approved by UL and is one of the highest quality lock brands on the market. The only other two I recommend are NL and S&G. This SecuRam lock is the exclusive partner of Liberty Safe and trusted by all of the major safe brands. Two fail safe override keys are also included for emergency use. The batteries are replaceable from the keypad outside the safe and it uses one 9 Volt Battery. This is a very good quality lock and covered by the Sports Afield Lifetime Warranty. This is a huge upgrade from the Solenoid style lock used on the Sports Afield gun safes and vastly enhances your security.
Security
When it comes to security the Remington gun safes are tiered into three levels. All of them are CA DOJ approved gun safes and the minimum steel thickness used is 12 gauge. This is another huge upgrade from the Sports Afield products which are typically 14 gauge steel. All three models would very likely pass the UL RSC burglary test as they include a UL rated lock, thick locking bolts, hardplates, re-lockers and all of the standard security features needed. This is also backed by their lifetime theft warranty where they will replace the safe if it is ever stolen, broken into or attempted to be broken into.
Fire and Water Ratings
Remington gun safes have excellent fire and water ratings. The Express starts out at 60 minutes and the STS finishes at 120 minutes but all of the fire ratings are tested at a minimum of 1650 degrees. So not only are the fire ratings longer than the competition but also at a higher temperature. Then they add a triple seal that not only expands to multiple times its size during a fire to keep smoke and heat from entering the safe but also provides water resistance for 7 days up to 2 feet deep. No other gun safes offer a water rating and both the fire and water rating are backed by the lifetime warranty where they will replace the safe if it ever experiences a fire or natural flood.
Style and Finish
Remington gun safes are styled incredibly well and they took what used to be a standard boring carpeted gun safe interior and massively upgraded it with beautiful vinyl trim, side walls, door panel organizer and more. Each exterior is styled per series with high gloss powder coats, unique handles and attractive color schemes. Then they add additional smart features like zero sag shelves, waterproof bolt down kit, UL rated power outlets and light kits. They thought of every feature, improved it then made it stylish. Well done.
The Bottom Line
So Does Remington make gun safes? No, they do not, however they do license their name to SA Consumer Products who make a very high quality gun safe. I am very impressed with this new product line and I think it is very quickly going to become one of the best selling safe lines in the industry. It’s backed by the industry’s absolute best lifetime warranty and all of the materials used are very high quality, especially the lock which is the most important feature of any gun safe.
