The lock is always the most important feature on any gun safe. The Cabela’s Signature E-Lock 64-Gun Safe uses a UL rated type 1 high security lock made by SecuRam. SecuRam is one of the only four lock companies I recommend due to their longevity, quality and reliability.
SecuRam Toplit UL Approved High Security Type 1 Electronic Lock
This model is the Toplit which features a red light on the top of the keypad for seeing in the dark. The lock was tested and survived an EMP test with no issues. Protecting the lock internally is a hard plate and internal re-locker. The Cabela’s Signature E-Lock 64-Gun Safe doesn’t just have a good lock, it also has advanced security features including Liberty’s 4 inch military style locking bars. These are one solid piece and offer significantly more pry resistance than the traditional round bolts. When combined with the 12 gauge steel unibody construction this safe is extremely tough.
It exceeds the CA DOJ Gun Safe requirements and overall is significantly more secure than most safes. Finally, a drill-bit destorying ball bearing hard plate is placed in-between the steel door and internal lock body. A dual re-locker keeps the bolts in place if the burglar attempts to punch through the lock.
Fire Rating – Cabela’s Signature E-Lock 64-Gun Safe
The Cabela’s Signature gun safe comes with a 75 minute fire rating at 1200 degrees. They also use genuine Palusol Fire seals which are the highest quality seals. They expand to 7 times their size during a fire to keep smoke and heat out.
Keep in mind, this is a factory test and not certified by an independent testing agency like ETL. Liberty safes have endured tons of real world fires with amazing success stories so the proof is in the pudding.
Style and Function
The Cabela’s Signature Gun Safe features a very attractive high gloss gray paint. Hardware includes a chrome 3-spoke handle and black keypad. Overall, the styling is excellent.
The interior features carpeting. The split gun rack, adjustable side shelving and top shelf includes a plastic trim. The back of the door features a handy door panel organizer capable of storing pistols, documents, knives, passports and more. Also included is an electrical outlet for plugging in items like a dehumidifier or light kit.
