Cabela’s contracted Liberty Safe to produce their safes and this is the same safe as The We the People series which is essentially the same as the 1776 series but with a 60 minute fire rating. In this review, I’ll help you understand why the Cabela’s Classic Series Gun Safe is one of the absolute best safes on the market for the price.
Lock – Cabela’s Classic Series Gun Safe
The lock is always the most important feature on any gun safe. The Cabela’s Classic Series Gun Safe uses a UL rated type 1 high security electronic lock made by SecuRam. SecuRam is one of the only three lock companies I recommend due to their longevity, quality and reliability.
This model is the Toplit which features a red light on the top of the keypad for seeing in the dark. The lock was tested and survived an EMP test with no issues. Protecting the lock internally is a hard plate and internal re-locker. With this gun safe, you can relax knowing you have the highest security rating possible from a reliable company with excellent quality. Liberty also backs these locks with a 5 year warranty, one of the absolute highest in the industry.
Security – Cabela’s Classic Series Gun Safe
The Cabela’s Classic Series Gun Safe doesn’t just have a good lock, it also has advanced security features including Liberty’s 4 inch military style locking bars. These are one solid piece and offer significantly more pry resistance than the traditional round bolts. When combined with the 12 gauge steel unibody construction this safe is extremely tough.
It exceeds the CA DOJ Gun Safe requirements and overall is significantly more secure than most safes. Finally, a drill-bit destorying ball bearing hard plate is placed in-between the steel door and internal lock body. A dual re-locker keeps the bolts in place if the burglar attempts to punch through the lock.
Fire Rating – Cabela’s Classic Series Gun Safe
The Classic Series comes with a 60 minute fire rating at 1200 degrees. They also use genuine Palusol Fire seals which are the highest quality seals. They expand to 7 times their size during a fire to keep smoke and heat out.
Keep in mind, this is a factory test and not certified by an independent testing agency like ETL. Liberty safes have endured tons of real world fires with amazing success stories so the proof is in the pudding.
Style and Function
The Classic Series features a very attractive gray marble paint. Hardware includes a black chrome 3-spoke handle and black keypad. Overall, the styling is excellent.
The interior features carpeting. The split gun rack, adjustable side shelving and top shelf includes a plastic trim. The back of the door features a handy door panel organizer capable of storing pistols, documents, knives, passports and more. It also includes an electrical outlet on the back of the safe for plugging in electronics like a dehumidifier or a light kit.
The Bottom Line
It’s very difficult to find a better safe than the Cabela’s Classic Series Gun Safe. Liberty makes it in the USA, uses a high quality lock, advanced military style locking bars, incredible styling and a lifetime warranty. What more could you want.
