Cons

  • Low Quality Electronic Solenoid Lock
  • Tubular Key Override Can Be Opened with BIC Pen
  • Thin Steel Construction
  • No Service or Warranty from Able
  • Lots of Bad Customer Experience

“Non-Responsive. No parts list so I didn’t know whether I should have received screws for the shelf holes and they didn’t answer the question. No installation instructions. I got it in by finding my own YouTube video. It would have helped to have a template to cut by with written instructions. I did get it in and it seems to work but customer service is terrible.”

Wall Safes are a product that you want to last. It takes a considerable amount of time, effort and money to install them, so I’m sure you can imagine the massive amount of frustration that is caused when the safe stops working, has a door jam, lock failure or any other critical issue. The Able Digital Wall Safe is built to the lowest quality standards in China and is guaranteed to give you a massive headache when the failure inevitably occurs. Some buyers are lucky and get a bad one right out of the box they can return and find a better brand and others find out four years later having to spend time and money to get it open, uninstalled and replaced. This is a wall safe I recommend you stay away from and in this review, I will detail exactly why.

Lock

First and always most important on any safe is the lock and Able used a non-UL rated Solenoid lock with key override. These are the most common types of electronic locks coming out of China because they are cheap, however they lack the most basic functions of security and can be opened with just about anything, including a potato. You simply bump the top of the lock causing the metal locking pin to bounce while simultaneously turning the handle. If this security flaw wasn’t bad enough, Able also includes a tubular key override that can be opened with a BIC Pen. This lock will inevitably fail but on the bright side, it’s incredibly easy to break into it once it does.

Security

The steel thickness on the Able Digital Wall Safe is not listed anywhere on the page and neither is the weight. That’s a very bad sign and when its not listed, it’s typically as thin as possible and by looking at the safe, I think it’s safe to assume it is 16 gauge steel. Standard on wall safes is a minimum of 3/8″ thick door with the real security starting at 1/2″ such as the Stealth WSHD1414 Wall Safe. This wall safe also features an exposed reset button to set the combination that can easily be pressed by slightly prying the door and using a coat wire to press it. When you combine the lack of security in the door with the easy opening methods from the lock and key override, this wall safe is not secure at all.

Style and Function

The one thing the Able Digital Wall Safe has is two fixed shelves that are not removable and it is finished in a powder coat textured black. The locking mechanism and safe looks like it was built in the 1970s and is not an attractive finish by any means. Fortunately, they do include the mounting hardware needed to install it.

The Bottom Line

The Able Digital Wall Safe is a low quality product made by an unreliable company that has a reputation of not providing any service or warranty for their products. The security on this safe is severely lacking and it is way too easy to break-in via multiple methods all with available youtube videos showing you exactly how to do it. There are far better options available such as the American Security WEST2114, V-Line QuickVault and Stealth WSHD1414 wall safes. I recommend you stay far away from this so-called “safe”.
