In this review, I will explain why the American Security CSC1413 Burglary and Fire Safe is one of the absolute best home safes in the industry.

Lock – American Security CSC1413 Burglary and Fire Safe

UL Approved High Security Mechanical Lock

First and always most important for any safe is its lock. The American Security CSC1413 Burglary and Fire Safe comes standard with a UL Approved High Security Mechanical Lock. This is one of the two mechanical locks I recommend with the other being made by S&G. This high quality lock is designed to last forever and uses the traditional 3 number combination on a spyproof dial that prevents others from seeing you spin the combination.

UL Approved High Security Electronic Lock

There is also a second lock option that is the ESL10XL electronic lock. This lock is UL approved type 1 high security and the absolute highest rating you can get. It has additional features from just the standard code like Time Delay that does not allow you to open the safe again for a specified period of time after each opening.

Glass Re-Locker and Hard Plate

No matter the lock option you choose, it will be thoroughly protected by both a tempered glass re-locker and an internal hardened steel hard plate. If a burglar decides to drill through the front 12 gauge layer and concrete composite, they would then hit the hard plate which absolutely destroys drill bits. Then, if they get through that, they hit a glass re-locker that locks all of the bolts in place once it shatters. It’s placed in front of the lock so you can not miss it if attempting to drill in. Incredible security features protecting the lock on this safe.

Security – American Security CSC1413 Burglary and Fire Safe

The American Security CSC1413 Burglary and Fire Safe is UL approved as a Residential Security Container. This means it can withstand adequate burglary attacks for a period of up to 5 minutes with several different tools.

However, this safe is so much stronger than just your average RSC rated home safe. American Security builds this home safe with concrete composite material in-between two layers of steel. The construction is very similar to their BFX gun safes which are my top recommendation in the gun safe category. Each layer of steel is 12 gauge with the concrete composite material in the middle. The door is 4-5/8″ thick and features four 1-1/2″ thick steel locking bolts. Two are active and two are deadbolts. This home safe is an absolute beast and extremely secure from burglary attacks.

Fire Rating – American Security CSC1413 Burglary and Fire Safe

The AMSEC CSC series is fire rated for 2 hours at 1700 degrees. This is significantly longer and hotter than nearly every competitor. An intumescent door seal is included that expands up to 7 times its size during a fire to seal out smoke and heat from entering the safe. This fire rating is tested by ETL which is an independent laboratory who verifies the claims of safe companies. American Security is the only company to test their safes with an independent laboratory and all other companies only perform factory tests where we have to trust them and take their word for it.

Style and Function

The American Security CSC series is finished in a charcoal gray textured paint. It is both durable and strong. Hardware includes a brushed silver tri-spoke handle with chrome keypad. The final accent features a full width fascia panel that matches the handle. Inside you’ll find no carpeting and only an all steel interior with one adjustable or removable shelf. I would not consider this a pretty safe, this a real safe. It is strong, durable and excellent for burglary and fire protection. Finally, there is one counter-sunk bolt down hole and mounting hardware is included.

The American Security CSC series comes with a 1 year parts and labor warranty. American Security is a very easy company to work with. They are trustworthy when it comes to providing service on their products. They are the oldest safe company in the United States with a premier reputation for quality. Finally, this is a warranty you can trust.

The Bottom Line

Would I buy the American Security CSC1413 Burglary and Fire Safe to store my valuables? Yes, I absolutely would. With a concrete composite mixture in-between two steel walls, a UL RSC burglary Rating, 2 hour high temperature fire rating and quality lock options, this is one of my top picks out of any home safe.

The only home safes I find to be even better are the American Security BF home safes. The reason I like these safes better is they have a thicker steel plate in the front and the UL fire rating. All in all, American Security is the best company to buy a high quality burglary and fire safe from, hands down.
