I’ve been seeing this question, Are Sports Afield Safes Made in USA, pop up more and more in Google every time I do a search for Gun Safes, so I thought I would answer the question directly and break down exactly where Sports Afield Safes are made. Sports Afield has a wide variety of names and safes that are constantly needing to change based on the extensive amount of bad reviews they receive. Sports Afield is sold under the parent company SA Consumer Products and they now have three names for different safe lines. Their brand new “high end” gun safes are now branded as Remington, they have the original Sports Afield gun safes and Sanctuary home and office safes. In short, they are not made in USA and are 100% made in China. In this review, I will break down what parts they use on each series.
Lock
Traditionally, Sports Afield has always used a non-UL rated electronic lock with key override on all of their products. If you have read any review I have ever written, you will see I constantly remind everyone that you should purchase a gun safe with a UL rated lock at the bare minimum. These locks are significantly higher quality, go through rigorous testing and are built to last. The keypad and lock mechanism used in the Sports Afield products is very cheap and a low quality lock coming out of China. With that said, I think they read some of my reviews because the new Remington safe line that just came out this year, 2022, now has a SecuRam UL rated high security electronic lock. I do recommend this lock and it is very good quality and long lasting. Both the Non-UL rated lock used on Sports Afield and Sanctuary products as well as the SecuRam lock are both fully made in China. Chinese quality can vary greatly but the SecuRam products go through rigorous testing for quality and security and are certified.
The Safe Itself
Sports Afield, Sanctuary and Remington safe bodies and interiors are all manufactured in China. The factory they use was traditionally built to make shipping containers but was then transitioned over to Safe products. I will say, the quality of the interior has greatly improved for Sports Afield and especially for the Remington brand. They took a lot complaints from other safe lines and vastly improved them. Unique to their brand is the waterproofing where they claim it can sit in 2 ft of water for up to 7 days. No other safe brand really offers this despite it being a common concern of most safe buyers. Despite the actual safe quality construction improving vastly over the years, it still makes no difference if the lock is poor quality.

Sports Afield imports to, ships from and operates out of Tacoma, Washington and services the entire USA. They have huge partnerships with big box stores like Home Depot, Costco, Sams Club and Walmart.
The Bottom Line
Are Sports Afield Safes Made in USA? No they are not. Are they still good quality even though they are fully made in China? That definitely depends on which series you are asking about. I would not recommend any Sports Afield or Sanctuary safes due to the fact that they do not have a UL Rated lock. I would however, recommend the new Remington safe line based on the SecuRam UL rated lock, features, quality interior and water resistance.
