“I bought this safe to secure some items in my Motor Home. I bolted it to the floor under my couch. I drove probably a thousand miles, for some reason I needed to get under the seat.I noticed the safe OPEN! How could that be?? I check the contents everything accounted for so I closed and made sure it was locked. Probably 7 or 800 more miles I lifted the couch up and the safe is OPEN again!! Ok something is really screwy here. NO ONE has the key or combination but me. Actually no one has even been in the Motor Home but me. I locked it again, drove 200 miles to my current destination and immediately raised the couch to check the safe. You guessed it, it was open again. Somehow the vibration of the traveling MH will cause the safe to open. I have no idea. It does take a few hours of traveling to open it, checked 50 miles and it was fine. It appears to be strong, well built, has a double deadbolt twist lock, the key works fine, the programming not difficult and works fine, everything a good safe would have, it just likes to unlock by itself. Buyer beware!! I suppose if it was anchored to concrete it would be ok unless there was an earthquake…”

Rick M Robinson from Amazon.com

Paragon Safe company is another fly by night operation on Amazon selling low quality products at what seems like a great price. Just hit most recent on any of the reviews of their products and you will see what seems like a never ending list of 1 star reviews, all with similar complaints. The lock stopped working, it was broken into in seconds and it came completely destroyed are just some of the numerous bad reviews. The Paragon 7850 Electronic Safe is a low quality product that I strongly recommend you stay as far away from possible and in this review, I will detail exactly why.

Lock

The lock used on the Paragon 7850 Electronic Safe is not UL Rated and not even motorized. It’s the lowest quality Solenoid style lock you can use and you can open it with literally anything just by banging the top of the safe and turning the handle. This is called the bump method and you can even check on Youtube, How to Open a Safe with a Potato to watch this exact style lock be bumped open with yes, a potato. As the Rick the reviewer above mentioned, it vibrated open while he was driving in his motor home. Remember, the lock is always the most important part of any safe and this is quite literally the lowest quality lock in existence that will stop working.

Security

When it comes to the security of the Paragon 7850 Electronic Safe, there isn’t much to brag about. They list it as 11 gauge solid steel but at its weight of 15 lbs shipped and the dimensions of 12x14x18, I do not believe for one second it is 11 gauge steel and more likely 16 gauge steel. Especially as nearly every user who had this broken into in the reviews shows the safe got cut open like butter. The door looks thin enough to be able to pry open with only a screwdriver and they don’t even list the thickness of the bolts which look around 1/2″ in the picture.

Function

The Paragon 7850 Electronic Safe is finished in textured black with a chrome keypad. I guess the one plus for this safe is they include a carpeted bottom so that when a thief is able to easily break-in, the contents will be sitting on a nice gray piece of carpet for them.

The Bottom Line

If you can’t tell by my analysis so far, this Paragon 7850 Electronic Safe is absolutely something I would not recommend. There are significantly better options available that may be more expensive, but when it comes to your security, that’s the last place to be cheap. The Paragon can be broken into in less than 5 seconds and you wouldn’t want to trust your hard earned dollars or sensitive information to a complete POS like this.
